Advanced Practice is increasingly important for the pharmacy profession, but there is still some uncertainty about what it actually means in practice. A common misconception is that Advanced Practice is a particular role or job title, or that it is defined by undertaking specific clinical activities such as acute or clinical triage.
In reality, Advanced Practice is a level of practice and professional achievement, not a job title. Pharmacists may be working at an advanced level in many different settings and roles, demonstrating their expertise and impact across the four pillars of Advanced Practice.
This raises an important question for pharmacists: “How do I know whether I’m already working at an advanced level?”
